It was a huge start for big Willie at the Roosters. The human headline throwing himself into the match against the Wests Tigers and in a spiteful affair, Mason had a huge collision with Tigers prop Todd Payten - putting the big Wests forward in hospital before the match had completed.
Mason was like a caged animal released by his new club. The Bondi boys getting away with a late win, pipping the Wests Tigers 34-28 in a solid and physical affair for both NRL sides. Tigers coach Tim Sheens admitting after the match - the extend of the hits and the injuries caused have him concerned about NRL Results in the early matches due to unavailability of players after this slug fest pre-season trial game.
Both clubs had some good touches with Benji Marshall finding some confidence and setting up some nice tries for the Tigers.
But it's Willie the crowds want to see. The man that was caught with his pants down pee'ing in the park was at his aggro best. It seems almost guaranteed that his return bout against old club the Bulldogs could be the game of the year.
This will no doubt be Rugby League warfare. A bruising encounter that will bring out the tribal supports from both clubs no doubt. Certainly not a match to miss - probably safer watching it in your lounge room though unless you have a SWAT team you can call on to escort you to and from the ground. Either that or you have a corporate box, which no doubt will be safest place to be.
Bring on the NRL!
