The return of Wendell Sailor was a publicity dream for the NRL itself and the St George Illawarra Dragons, but 35 year old Dell was a yard short of pace and was blowing heavily after only 20-30 minutes of the fast paced match at WIN Stadium.
Up against the Broncos, who were full of kids - the game proved once again that NRL Rugby League in comparison to Rugby Union; both Super 14 and local club Rugby is a much faster game, that will test every inch of the players fitness regardless of position.
The play the ball speed was particularly fast, fortunately for Wendell - the referee was Ben Cummins. Easily the poorest referee in first grade NRL at the moment, Cummins blew the pea out of the whistle and slowed the game somewhat - making things a little easier for the players.
Wendell copped plenty of attention, but minutes before half time the big winger was felled and broke his cheekbone badly; ending his night and putting the big winger out for quite possibly the rest of the 2008 NRL season.
It didn't matter to the Dragons, the eager red and whites played some crisp attacking football and really tested the rookie Broncos. While valliant, the Broncos kids were totally outclassed and went down 28-10.
The Dragons are racing up the NRL Table and with continued impressive NRL Results that could be a real challenger come semi-finals and finals time.
