The selection of Mitchell Pearce has many people debating whether he is ready for selection at half back for NSW. A few others names have come up Brett Finch,Jarrod Mullen,Matt Orford and Brett Kimmorley,
Brett finch has been tried there in the past when there were injuries to other halfbacks,he was about fourth choice. On that night he kicked the winning field goal to win the game for NSW. Finch has had his chance the following year to produce the goods but his form at club level had dropped, he has had a good season so far in the NRL .
Jarrod Mullen was a good choice last year.He took over the reins at Newcastle last year when Andrew Johns retired,it was a lot of pressure on Mullen to produce the goods and he handle it very well considering Newcastle were going through a tough time with internal problems,as well as the arrival of a new coach . To take over Joeys spot to guide a side around the football would not been easy ,He did very well until he got injured.
Matt Orford is a good player however for some reason he was over looked for the state of origin.I believe he was over looked because he doesn't have the ability to take control of a game by the neck and dominate a football game or guide his side around like Mullen can . Mullen is a more dominate player than Orford.
Brett Kimmorley has been tried in the past and has not really taken up the challenge ,He has played well in some state of origin games , but was outplayed by the opposition half ,unfortunately for him its to late for him now.
Finch , Kimmorley, and Orford have let Peter Wallace snick in under their guard and Mitchell Pearce has done so as well.
Pearce and Mullen will be the next two halves to dominate the game, providing they have correct guidance .Pearce won't have to look far for help he will be surrounded by his roosters team mates on the field ,his dad Wayne Jnr Pearce , but his best advice would come from his coach Brad Fittler who played at that level at a young age,he only has been out of the game for a short time so he would know what is required out there, lets not forget his coach Craig Ballamy who can get the best out his players.
