The St George Illawarra Dragons players have been told they need to perform now or risk being cut by the new Wayne Bennett regime in 2009. NRL Results are now not only critical to their premiership aspirations this year, but also pivotal to their careers and re-signing as they chase contracts under the new coach for next years NRL.
The Dragons have been hot and cold under Nathan Brown this year and while they have shown glipses of class, the consistency is still lacking there week to week. The halves combination of Jamie Soward and Rangi Chase seems to be successful, however its the big forwards that arent laying the platform for the team consistently.
Outside back Mark Gasnier is someone who has had little touches of the ball. Something like 10 touches a game, several from dummy half is not enough for the big name superstar. Surely he needs to be getting more of the footy to be dangerous.
The Dragons face the Sharks in the NRL Round 4 2008 clash of the local bordering teams. The derby is always a classic and will no doubt go down to the wire. Lance Thompson returns for his Sharks side and plays against his old club which always brings the best out in him.
Coach Ricky Stuart is struggling for depth in the forwards with several of the Cronulla Sharks players suspended or injured. Brett Kimmorley and Greg Bird will need to really carry their side against the unpredictable Dragons attack from the likes of Matt Cooper, Chase Stanley and Brett Hornby.
