World Cup Club Challenge
After every NRL Grand Final every Australian team who have won the competition have always travelled to England to take on the English super league champions. The Australian team are always at a disadvantage with the English teams already at the start of their domestic competition, they are match fit and harden ,where as the Australians teams do not have sufficient preparation for the match and are always beaten by the English sides, which does not give a true indication who the club champions are.If the English clubs are so dominate over the Australian teams , then the English
International teams should be of a more dominant force on the international games .
The Australian test teams have time again proven than they are the best sides at an international level. The level of competition in the NRL is the best in the world and many players in the English competition would struggle to compete at a high level here week in week out .
At the end of this season, there will be newly formed international teams to try and combat the best team in the world, that being Australia.
The Kangaroo touring parties prove that the Australian teams are far more superior then the England sides as they were undefeated in two touring Kangaroo squads.
Australia,England and New Zealand are the only countries who play Rugby League at an international level,to a lesser extent Samoa,New Guinea and Tonga to be introduced this year ,now that's not much of a world cup. A new concept would be to introduce a cup challenge between the Australian club sides up against the English club sides.
The world club challenge would consist of groups of four , two sides from Australia and two from England ,and of course the New Zealand Warriors would included. The format would be based on the Soccer world cup. Each club to play each other twice ,one home game, one away game. The top two sides from each group going on to meet other teams from the competition.
For this to work the season would have to be shorter , as the final winner would not be determined for a few months. The World Club Challenge would be better done before the start of the competition. The winner of the world cup challenge would put pride on the line as they try to win the NRL or the Super League double, in their respected competition and countries.
The final would be played at the teams at a neutral venue if in Australia or in England. If the final two teams are from both countries, then the advantage would go the team with the better points for and against.
A world cup final between to great sides could be played at some fantastic venues. For one of our top sides playing an English side either at Suncorp,ANZ stadiums or at Wembley stadium what an atmosphere it would be and a great spectacle at that.It all depends who get into the final two Australian teams it would be played at home in Australia, and if two English sides make it ,it would be played in England.
If this concept was a success the world club challenge ,could be staged every four years, just like the passed Kangaroos did .
