Penrith Panthers bet the lot on Jarrod Sammut
February 26th 2008 07:19
They've taken a huge gamble in my books. Today the Penrith Panthers NRL club re-signed youngster - 21 year old Jarrod Sammut to a 2 year deal, locking up the livewire fullback until 2010.
The thing is, while Sammut impressed greatly in his debut year at fullback for Penrith during 2007 - a desperate coach in Matt Elliot is looking to move Sammut into the halves as a possible solution to all this Rugby League teams woes!
Sammut can play. There is no questioning that, however putting him in the engine room at centre field and expecting him to make tackle after tackle with his small frame could cost the Panthers valuable points.
They shouldn't mess with a proven fullback that regularly keeps a clean sheet. To make matters more confusing, the Panthers had already bought South Sydney discard Joe Williams who is a proven performer at half back and could easily guide the Panthers around the field.
I think this a move that already shows the desperation of Matt Elliot in his quest for improved NRL Results in a year where is life is on the line as well as his clubs.
