Could Paul Gallen Cost his team an NRL Grand final Victory Lap?
Rookie Rugby League writer John; also known as 'HateQLD' to many in the NRL world feels that Paul Gallen is a ticking time bomb and could literally cost his team in the big one.
The race for the finals are now on, with all the representation games over.
We have seen three very good games during the state of origin one game a run
away result to Queensland. There were hard hits, great runs , pass kicks and
tackles .These players toiled away at camp trying to out fox each other for
that title of the best state team, Queensland been champion for the last
threeyears. a forth is on the cards, it is not beyond them.
New South Wales will have to have a long hard look at the future to see what
can be done to combat the dominance of Queensland.
For one they have a very disciplined side with only a few penalties given
away which will happen in any give game of rugby league. New South Wales
gave away a few as well. but none more prominent as Paul Gallon did in the third
game.He gave away 3 out the 7 given.
The one that will stick out the most is when late in the tackle count Jonathon Thurston puts a kick in behind the blues line only to have Gallon put his arm out and taking Thurston out late. From the conversion QLD level the scores, it could have been well the turning point
in the game, may be just the edge to get QLD up again. I am not blaming Gallon
for the loss ,there were a few under achievers for the blues out there, but
he didn't help by giving away a cheap shot like that.
He can also do so at club level. With NRL Results all critical from here until the end of the 2008 NRL season, This year alone he already has done silly
things on the field .Anthony Laffrauchi had a head wound which needed
stitches . during a tackle Gallon decided to place his palm on the wound
placing pressure to open it back up, and in the same game another Gold
Coast Titans player accused Gallon of grapping him on his testicles.
Against Parramatta his name came up again as a player laid on the ground
unconscious Gallon was seen to slap him on the forehead. For a
club captain ,he shows poor leadership qualities.Gallon can be seen having
to chat to the referee in a poor manner. He is setting a poor example to the
youth of rugby league who will look at him as their hero.the young league
players could be doing the same as him.The season may have started for some
teams who did not make the finals in 2007.The preparation of hard work and
dedication of teams trying to be the best in October could come undone at
that vital game of the year.Cronulla has yet to win a premiership since
entering the competition, the way they are playing this year could be the
year for the long suffering sharks fans.
If Cronulla does make it to the big one ,the pressure will be on.Could you
imagine if Gallon gives away a silly penalty like he did the other night, and
give the title away ,after all the long months of hard work getting to the
biggest game of his career , how would he feel.not only letting his team
mates down, also the hard working Cronulla staff ,and most important your
loyal fans.He will always be remembered for the game that he lost the grand
final for the sharks.no matter what he has achieved before he will be
remembered for his last bad effort, the bad will always out last the good.Ask
Jamie Aniscow in 1999 going high on Craig Smith.
Due to his poor attitude on and off the field his state jersey and club
captaincy is on the line, Gallon will need to improve his attitude on the
field or he could cost the Cronulla Sharks that Grand Final victory lap.
