February 22nd 2008 20:08
It may only be a pre-season trial match but regardless of no NRL Results or points being on offer, the Eels and Panthers turned it on in Albury for their first major hitouts.
Penrith eventually stealing the win 30-28 after two late tries in the final 5 minutes to Luke Rooney, returning from a long layoff Rooney was a standout for the Penrith side. Jarrod Sammut also played strongly in the half back role and coach Matt Elliott heaped praise on new buy Petero Civoniceva for a gritty and selfless showing.
From the Eels point of view, coach Michael Hagan was happy with his group of youngsters. In particular half Brett Finch and new pivot Feliti Mateo performing well and guiding the team around. Centre Kris Inu had a strong game and continues his rise to stardom in the top end of town.
The only injury to come out of the game was to Eels forward Mark Horo who will be checked over today for the extent of damage.
