NRL beats Rugby Union, Soccer and AFL in Foxtel PayTV Rankings
July 17th 2008 00:46
NRL has proved its worth despite low crowd numbers this year, with the Rugby League code easily beating its rivals in terms of PayTV Foxtel rankings within the country.
Despite being played on lower (Fox Sports 2/3) channels and having poor timeslots in non-Rugby League states, the NRL package has easily beaten off its rivals to push for higher TV rights in the not too distant future.
Usually private, the SMH pushed to retrieve stats and published the top ranking sports packages on Foxtel.
The move is a welcome shot in the arm for the NRL, after recently losing star player Mark Gasnier to French Rugby Union.

While there was the expected drop during the Origin period, you might find it interesting, to find out NRL crowd average attendances are at an all time high...
And have been for about 10 weeks...

Thanks for the comment. Yes the NRL are doing their best to 'spin doctor' the crowds.
A few individual high turn outs for Brisbane and Gold Coast games have fudged the figures.
Crowds for the NZ Warriors are close to the worst since their inception.
The Sharks crowd figures continued a downward spiral to the point they were nearly forced out of Shark Park (Results have helped prop them up)
The Bulldogs crowds are so bad, they are 'faking' the figures weekly. (Media are at times estimating the fake count to be ridiculously higher than actual numbers)
So no, don't believe the hype or the NRL spin. There has not been an across the board improvement in crowds.
