Newtown name their Team of the Century
Newtown named its Team of the Century at Petersham Town Hall was announced on Saturday night. Tom Raudonikis and John Raper were both surprise omissions from the imposing squad to be skippered by Frank "Bumper" Farrell. Raper was overlooked because he left the club as a teenager, going on to superstardom with St George. The pair were still honoured with awards for Best Imported Player and Best Junior in the foundation club's history.
Newtown chose to name all 18 players in their positions rather than a starting 13 with reserves and 18th man.
The team is as follows: Gordon Clifford, Phil Sigsworth, Lionel Williamson, Charles Russell, Dick Poole, Len Smith, Brian Moore, Bill Farnsworth, Tony Brown, Keith Froome, Frank Farrell ©, Paddy McCue, Paul Quinn, Arthur Folwell, Herb Narvo, Graham Wilson, Felix Ryan & Noel Mulligan. Coach: Warren Ryan.
