What reportedly happened is Mark Gasnier has apparently got into an arguement with an unknown party and Jarryd Hayne and several Eels players have come to his assistance.
While Gasnier apparently left the venue some time before, the culprits are reported to have waited outside for up to 30 minutes to get a shot off at Gasnier and / or Hayne.
It was Jarryd Hayne and two other Eels players that came underfire, as the Kings Cross bad guys proceeded to fire a shot out a car window as they drove past. Naturally the Eels players fled and apparently hid in a park for up to 30 minutes before being game enough to leave the scene and report the whole saga to Police.
It takes things to a whole new level for NRL Rugby League players. Previously it was drunken fights and late night SMS saga's - now it's Russian Roulette with real bad guys who don't like to lose. This could have easily led to Hayne being popped and the Eels losing an attacking outside back..
NRL players and the clubs need to assess things quickly and work out a plan to keep players away from the trouble, while at the same time allowing them to have some sort of normal life.
