Did Brett Kimmorley take a dive to get Cronulla home over Parramatta Eels

Brett Kimmorley Cronulla Sharks NRL 2008 Fui Fui Moi Moi Golden Point Drop Goal Hit Penalty Referee
It was the Cronulla Sharks at their grinding best over at Toyota Park on Sunday afternoon NRL. The previously high flying Parramatta Eels were ground to a halt, the Sharks sending 4 men into tackles and slowing everything down to a standstill.

The Sharks played referee Shayne Hayne perfectly, pushing the envelope on most tackles but exerting just enough movement in the ruck not to be penalised.

The Eels could never get a roll on and as such it was a low scoring game, with only 2 tries a piece and a few penalties.

With minutes to go, it was looking like a golden point game to finish the Sunday NRL round of 15. However, the referees and officials were set to decide this game. With seconds remaining of regular time, Brett Kimmorley lines up a long range field goal for the Cronulla Sharks.

With Parramatta Eels defenders Nathan Cayless and Fui Fui Moi Moi chasing hard to pressure the drop kick, Kimmorley sprays the kick wide and well short. However, the jumping charge down from Moi Moi brushed Kimmorley above the neck and he veteran halfback used all his experience to stay on the ground and await the video referee intervention.

Eels fullback Luke Burt let the missed attempt roll to the dead ball line, however - had he fetched the ball and kept play alive, the chances of Kimmorley getting a diving penalty were much slimmer.

It's all history now, the Shark Park crowd going nuts as Luke Covell the goal kicker slotted the easy 2 points from right in front, allowing the Sharks to take victory in the slowest game of Round 15.

The Sharks now well placed inside the Top 8 and virtually ensuring themselves of a Top 8 Semi Final appearance in the 2008 NRL competition.
