Craig Wing hurt by Rooster Riley Brown in tackle
March 15th 2008 02:35
It wasn't the start to the NRL 2008 season that South Sydney and coach Jason Taylor wanted. The fired up Roosters came out hard early and seemingly attacking Craig Wing at each opportunity, the Bondi boys getting their man 7 minutes in with a low level shoulder charge by Riley Brown that rendered Craig Wing useless after popping his shoulder out of place.
Forgetting the fireworks for just a moment, the Roosters new look side seems to be the real deal in 2008 with good combinations and set moves working for the Sydney team and a group of players that seem well balanced and compliment each other nicely.
Without Craig Wing, Souths not only lost a playmaker but also an interchange player and with the new NRL rules for 2008 meaning only 10 interchanges per match it meant that NRL Results were at stake for the red and green brigade with little or no chance of pulling this match back from the depths.
Jason Taylor pulled no punches after the game, claiming the Roosters attacked Craig Wing deliberately and Riley Brown as the 3rd man into the tackle by Braith Anasta and Anthony Toupu was the main man as he did the damage.
In the end the Roosters won 34-20 in their Round 1 NRL clash with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, the first round for 2008 and that of the centenary season of Rugby League.
Craig Wing looks to be out for at least 6 weeks, maybe more depending on nerve damage around the shoulder.
