The under siege Bulldogs have firmed big time to snare Wayne Bennett for their 2009 NRL campaign.
Originally thought as a long shot, the Bulldogs who have Folkes off contract at year end - now believe they could use the strict Bennett to govern Belmore with an iron fist. Produce talent, yet keep things in check.
Bennett likes the idea as his family are now settled in Sydney and a Belmore base would be handy for him.
For Steve Folkes the most likely position would be a move to the Dragons where he could oust Nathan Brown for a seat in Rugby Leagues hot chair next year. Brown is out of contract and Folkes has hinted in the past that Saints could be a future home should Belmore boot him.
The coaching saga is set to really get underway as NRL 2008 kicks off in a few weeks time. Several big name mentors are under the pump and players will feel the pressure from Round 1 in the big time.
