The Brisbane Broncos have got their NRL Results well and truly underway with a sensational flogging of the hapless Penrith Panthers at Suncorp Stadium today.
Boasting several new names in their side including several former Panthers, the Broncos looked sleek and fast as they ran rings around a fumbling and still ill-disciplined Penrith Panthers side. Matt Elliott must be talking to himself, as the Panthers continued to make the same mistakes and fight NRL Referee Gavin Badger all the way through.
Petero Civoniceva did well for his new club the Panthers, but other Penrith players weren't so convincing. Luke Priddis not as his best, still looking a yard off the pace and giving away silly penalties and the Panthers forwards trying to push the pass without making the metres first - it was football suicide.
Were the Panthers that bad or were the Broncos simply too hot? I think it was more that Penrith gifted so much ball to the new look Broncos that they grew in confidence and warmed to the new halves pairing of Darren Lockyer and Peter Wallace that should prove NRL winners throughout the season - they certainly look like NRL Top 8 contenders after this one.
