I don't usually chat about other Rugby League news and tournaments outside the national NRL competition, however the continuing trend of local players heading overseas continues as the Wests Tigers captain Brett Hodgson accepts a lucrative deal from UK Super League giants Huddersfield.
The veteran Hodgson has been an NRL mainstay for many years. Starting his career at Wests Magpies, moving to the Parramatta Eels and finally rejoining the merged entity that is the Wests Tigers.
Fullback Hodgson was crucial to the success of the new Tigers and his role saw them achieve immediately improved NRL Results and enjoy a high ranking position on the NRL Ladder, culminating with them winning the NRL Grand Final in 2005 against the North Queensland Cowboys.
Hodgson will end his days with the Wests Tigers side at this seasons end and link up with Huddersfield for the kick off of the 2009 Super League season.
Coach Tim Sheens said it was a shame to see the class of 2005 being broken up as players move on, but essentially the passing of the batton just had to happen. The Tigers are blessed in that they have plenty of talent coming through in the form of, Chris Lawrence, Dean Collis and Robbie Farah all class leading players helping the Tigers stay consistently in NRL winners circles.
