In form Parramatta Halfback Brett Finch was earlier this week signed for a further 3 years to the Eels after extended negotiations with the western-Sydney club. The talented Finch, a much maligned Rugby League player in recent years struggled to find a home at both the Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters - after stints with the two clubs.
Son of referee boss Robert Finch, Brett has had a solid 18 months at the Parramatta Eels and while combining well with former half Tim Smith, it was essentially the departure of Tim Smith that allowed Brett Finch to assume the main halfback spot and force the Eels to take notice of the player - signing him for an extended period.
Reports suggest that UK Super League clubs and rival NRL clubs had circled for Finch, but given the Eels' strong NRL Results in recent seasons which were helped by the strong play from Finch - they had no choice but to retain the craft half.
The Eels find themselves in somewhat of a slump at present, expected to do big things in 2008 - they have been scratchy at best and only managed to win games on the back or short sharp bursts of brilliance mixed in with some poor play and overall poor ball security.
The Eels face the Sydney Roosters this week in a Friday night clash, with the Sydney side missing several State of Origin stars in Craig Fitzgibbon, Anthony Tupou and Willie Mason - plus Nate Myles in the Queensland side.
The Eels only lose Jarryd Hayne and will be looking to grab the 2 NRL competition points on offer at home.
In other Parramatta news, veteran Daniel Wagon is reportedly looking at options in the UK Super League for 2009 - as the Eels look to ease salary cap pressure on their club, with plenty of talented youngsters coming through in the likes of; Jarryd Hayne, Krisnan Inu, Feliti Mateo and Ben Smith.
