Benji Marshall in another NRL brawl in Kings Cross - Saphire Club
June 16th 2008 12:52
Its happened again. An NRL player involved in an off-field incident. Wests Tigers Benji Marshall was this time involved with a Kings Cross flare up at the Saphire Club on Sunday night after his sides 44-6 loss to the Parramatta Eels.
Benji Marshall was apparently drinking with Eels players Mark Riddell, Feleti Mateo and Brett Finch and become involved in a heated exchange with a patron.
NSW Police at this stage have said Benji Marshall was not the instigator and did well to avoid additional confrontation with the angry patron. Security at the Saphire club apparently ejected the other patron and Marshall consulted with Police to provide his version of events.
Wests Tigers CEO Steve Noyce said he is satisfied with Marshalls response and backs his player at this stage.
Kings Cross remains a dodgey area and a nightclub hot spot for NRL players, with Eels player Jarryd Hayne shot at by thugs earlier in 2008.
The Tigers don't need the problems, with Wests already buried in an injury crisis and facing a test of morale after a big loss to the Eels at ANZ Stadium on Sunday. The Tigers face the Brisbane Broncos this Friday night at Suncorp Stadium in what should be a fierce contest between the battling NRL Rivals.
