It was the showdown between the might of 2007 NRL premiership winners the Melbourne Storm and the lowly ranked Cronulla Sharks. The Sharks proving they had the confidence after pipping Manly a week before to beat the Storm at Olympic Park in a sometimes spiteful match.
But what about the Brett White vs Ben Ross incident? Sure, Ben Ross committed a cardinal sin and pulled that cheap shot to fell Cooper Cronk after the kick was made. No question about it.
How's Brett White's form though? Sure, he is entitled to protect his smaller team mate - but why wait to punch Ross when the big Cronulla Prop had his arms pinned by two Melbourne players? Ross unable to fight back and falling quickly to the ground.
Is White pulling more of the cheap shot here? Or was he entitled to do whatever to 'payback' the thug?
It's a tough call. Ricky Stuart is no doubt peeved at Ben Ross for such a silly outburst and Cronulla now find themselves struggling for prop forwards - at a time where they are in great NRL Rugby League form for 2008.
As we wait for kick off in Round 3, 2008 - the NRL is already hotting up, with some unusual NRL Results that have seen Manly winless and the Cowboys winless for this season too.
